I'm Hope Byrd
I AM A FILMMAKER AND PHOTOGRAPHER...
Originally from North Carolina, I am currently a second year film student at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA.
Ever since I was five years old and my Dad gifted me a flip camera, I have been obsessed with filmmaking and storytelling. As an only child, growing up I had to get creative with how I filled my days. I fell in love with recording videos with my friends, creating stop motion videos with my dolls, and editing music videos to my favorite songs. I taught myself at an early age how to use editing and sound design softwares and became well acquainted with social media platforms strategies and algorithm as I would frequently upload videos on Youtube and TikTok. One thing that is true about me, is that I will always have a camera on me.
High school was when I really found my passion for performance and storytelling whether it was on stage or on screen. Throughout my teenage years, I was involved in over 15 onstage productions, and eventually playing the lead role of James in my senior year production of James and the Giant Peach (The Musical). I learned valuable leadership and communication skills and found my voice and confidence in public speaking. I also gained many hard skills such as set design, power tools, gaffing, and light rigging for the stage. I have become more than a one trick pony as I have experience acting, script-writing, directing, and even hair and makeup design.
When it came to applying for college, I knew one thing was certain, it would be a disservice to myself to not follow my dreams and go to film school... and that's exactly what I did. In the fall of 2023, I packed my life in a few Costco bins and moved to Savannah, GA to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design's film and television program. Since being at SCAD, I have tried on many hats, trying my hand at many roles on set, post production, and even in photography. I have challenged myself in many ways and I am proud of the progress that I have made in my filmmaking abilities, but my journey is far from over.
